About Our Chapter

Our History:

Established in 1970, the National Black MBA Association is dedicated to develop partnerships that result in the creation of intellectual and economic wealth in the black community. In partnership with over 400 of the worlds top business organizations, the association has inroads into a wide range of industries as well as the public and private sector. Yet all of NBMBAA's partners have one thing in common: they are all committed to the organization's goals and values. Currently there are 44 U.S. professional chapters and 15 collegiate chapters.

The organization gains its strength from a strong belief in community and a commitment to its development through economic and educational development initiatives that support the global African American community. Through its chapter and collegiate affiliations, the NBMBAA provides the most powerful link of networking dedicated to increasing corporate diversity and access to business ownership.

The New Orleans Chapter of the NBMBAA

The New Orleans Chapter was founded in 1994 and currently has members at all levels of business management, from a wide array of disciplines including: Finance, Information Technology, Marketing, Legal & Engineering professions. Approximately 25% of our members are graduate school students, while another 15% are entrepreneurs. The remaining 60% of our membership base have an average of ten years work experience in Corporate America.

The Chapter is committed to:

Career and professional development: Delivering a comprehensive range of professional development programs geared to meet the needs of our members.

Cultivating partnerships with local businesses: Local businesses have the opportunity to increase their visibility with our members by contributing to the chapter financially or by providing meeting space. The Chapter in return can help assist with diversity in employment and recruiting efforts.

Community service: The New Orleans Chapter is firmly committed to developing youth in our community through Leaders of Tomorrow program and by providing at least $4,000 annually in scholarships to local students.

The Chapter maintains relationships with many of New Orleans’ community-based organizations and corporations. We are committed to contributing to our partnership by continuing to provide opportunities that derive mutual benefits.
